Comfy Critters Home Vet provides in-home veterinary care for senior pets, including palliative and hospice support and gentle end-of-life care.
Dr Alison focuses on helping pets live comfortably at home for as long as possible and supporting families through decisions that come with ageing, chronic conditions and terminal illness.
-
Palliative and hospice care are both comfort-focused approaches for pets living with chronic or terminal illness - but they differ slightly in focus.
Palliative care is about improving quality of life by managing pain, anxiety and other symptoms, even while a pet is still receiving treatment for their condition. It can begin at any stage of a serious illness and may continue for months or even years.
Hospice care typically begins when a pet is no longer receiving curative treatment and the focus shifts entirely to comfort in the time remaining. It supports both the pet and the family in preparing for end-of-life, helping you make decisions about how and when to say goodbye.
Both approachees are deeply personal and tailored to what matters most to you and your pet - with the goal of making their final chapter as comfortable, peaceful, and connected as possible.
-
If your pet is older or living with a serious condition like arthritis, cancer, or organ failure — and you're starting to wonder if they're still comfortable — they may benefit from palliative care.
Common signs include struggling with mobility, changes in appetite, weight loss, anxiety, or difficulty managing everyday tasks like toileting or grooming.
A home visit can help clarify what’s going on and what options are available.
-
Some families feel more comfortable having an initial consultation to discuss their pet’s condition, ask questions and explore options - even if they’re not ready to make decisions yet.
You are welcome to book a home visit just to talk things through.
-
During an in-home consultation, Dr Alison takes the time to understand your pet's medical history, assess their current condition, and talk through your concerns.
You'll receive tailored recommendations around pain relief, mobility support, nutrition, and how to monitor your pet’s comfort at home.
Together, we develop a plan that reflects your pet’s needs and your values.
-
Yes. If your pet is receiving palliative or hospice care, Dr Alison offers ongoing support options to help you feel confident and not alone in the weeks or months ahead.
This includes regular check-ins by phone or text - either weekly or as needed - to answer questions, adjust medications, and support you as things change. You don’t have to wait until something feels urgent to reach out.
These plans are designed to give you continuity, peace of mind and a sense that someone is walking alongside you in this chapter.
-
Saying goodbye at home allows your pet to stay in a familiar, peaceful space surrounded by love. Dr Alison takes the time to talk through what to expect, and nothing is rushed.
Many families choose to share a final meal or some quiet time together that morning — a chance to reflect, celebrate your pet’s life, and honour the bond you share.
We can say goodbye in the place your pet feels most at ease — whether that’s their favourite spot on the couch, out in the garden in the sun, or somewhere else that brings them comfort.
Dr Alison will give the first medication to help your pet relax into a deep sleep where they are comfortable and at rest. When you feel ready, she will give a second medication that helps them drift away gently.
You’re welcome to be close, hold them, or simply sit beside them. This visit is about creating a calm, loving goodbye on your terms.
-
Dr Alison is here to support you through every step — including looking after your pet after they have passed if you would like.
We partner with Patch & Purr, who offer respectful and compassionate private cremation services.
If this is something you would like to explore, we can help arrange everything and will talk through the options with you during our consultation.
-
It’s not always easy to know — especially when good days and bad days come and go.
Quality of life is about more than just how long your pet is here — it’s about how well they’re living day to day.
Things to consider include their appetite, mobility, comfort, toileting, sleep, and whether they still seem engaged with you and the world around them. Are they enjoying the things they used to? Are there more hard days than good ones?
Dr Alison can help you assess these changes during a home visit and offer tools to track their comfort over time. These conversations can be emotional, but you don’t have to figure it out alone.
-
That’s very common - and a big part of what Dr Alison helps with.
We can gently assess your pet’s comfort, discuss what you’re noticing day to day, and explore what “a good day” or “enough” looks like for you and your pet.
-
Yes. The grief that follows the loss of a pet can be deep and complex — and everyone experiences it differently. Dr Alison aims to create space not just for a peaceful goodbye, but also for what comes after.

You're not expected to hold it all alone.

“From initial contact Dr Allie has been exceptional. As most pet owner's know, saying goodbye to a pet who is a family member, is absolutely devasting.
Allie provided, and continues to provide, emotional support beyond that of any other vet I have met. Her calm, gentle and caring personality made the process feel more manageable. She helped us provide palliative care in the final weeks with our dog.
On the day of saying goodbye to our beloved Beau, Allie came to our home and gave us the time and space we needed without feeling rushed. She treated him with love and dignity and allowed us to give him the peaceful goodbye he deserved.
When they were ready, Allie personally delivered Beau's remains and continues to check in on how we are going. We couldn't have asked for anything better. Allie is one of a kind.”

“Having had to face the sudden decision and have to put a dog down at a vet where neither my dog or I were fully comfortable, I cannot recommend the service, support, and approach that Dr Alison took to supporting both Archie and I.
Over the last few years, Dr Alison’s holistic approach to understanding Archie, his environment and health history, and her patience and genuine want to help me understand what’s going on has been second-to-none. She has provided a boutique and bespoke approach to Archie's needs, helped me care for Archie as he entered his twilight years, and supported me through the hardest decision - when was the right time to help him move on.
Dr Alison was thorough and patient with Archie and I. She took time to run through treatment and support, as well as our options when it came to pallative care and end-of-life. It was not just her role as a vet, but the care and compassion she provided when it came to deciding the right time to let Archie go, and everything that was involved in that process.
Archie's comfort knowing Dr Alison, being at home surrounded by those who loved him, getting treats, pats and cuddles, and all the affirming words he could ever want, meant that not only were his final moments as wholesome and deserving, but that our final moments together are ones I'll remember and cherish.
Thank you Dr Alison from both Archie and I. I wouldn't have had anyone else, nor done it any other way. Holistic care through and through.”

“Losing a beloved pet is one of the hardest experiences in life, but Dr. Allie at Comfy Critters made Gypsie’s final moments peaceful, dignified, and full of love. From the very first phone call to the moment she personally brought Gypsie’s ashes back home, Dr. Allie was compassionate, patient, and incredibly kind.
She gave our family the space and time we needed to say goodbye in our own way, never rushing us. She gently guided us through the process, making sure our 13-year-old son understood in an age-appropriate way. She even listened to our stories about Gypsie, honoring her beautiful life.
Saying goodbye was one of the hardest decisions we’ve ever had to make, but Dr. Allie turned it into something truly special—an experience filled with love, warmth, and respect. We are forever grateful for her care and would wholeheartedly recommend Comfy Critters to anyone navigating the heartbreaking journey of losing a beloved pet.”
